Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) — The Metro Nashville government is looking for more workers, but some say it hasn’t done enough to share which positions need to be filled. ..

They say the answer has a way to find you if you listen close enough.

Demetria Harris appeared on Saturday hoping for training at the South East Community Center. Instead, she heard the crowd of job fairs just around the corner.

For several months she was looking for a new part-time job. It’s not that this personal trainer isn’t full. She lost £ 75 and started her own meal preparation business. All of this while managing clients and being a single mother.

“I’m probably always related to fitness, but my situation has changed and I just have to work differently,” Harris said.

Harris is looking for something part-time, but ultimately says it’s about flexibility.

Kim Lisby of Davidson County Drug Court was in one of many booths offering both part-time and full-time positions. She says that for everything people are looking for at work, it’s one of three top priorities. The other two include stability and payment.

At these job fairs, you can apply directly and have your questions answered on the spot. Currently, there are 79 openings throughout the metro government. Metro Councilor Joystyles says their biggest challenge is to let people know that these positions exist.

“I think what we need to do better is to hold an event like this and let people know that it’s available,” Styles said.

According to Styles, some people are now used to working from home, but they encourage employers to accommodate those who still find it to be the safest option.

If you don’t think you’re eligible for any of these positions, don’t worry. These jobs span several metro institutions.

  • Nashville Ministry of Transport (NDOT)
  • Metro water service
  • State Trial Court
  • Emergency communication department
  • Metro code
  • Davidson County Sheriff’s Office
  • Metro Health Department
  • Information technology
  • Metro Nashville Police Station

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor announced that the number of Americans applying for unemployment had fallen back to pre-pandemic levels. Even so, about 3 million people nationwide are looking for jobs.
