Las Vegas (KLAS) — The double murder near STRAT in downtown Las Vegas is one of 21 murder investigations that have kept metro police busy for the past month.

Two people were killed in an apartment complex in one of the most shocking crimes in the valley this year. This is an attack in which the landlord was accused of shooting a tenant in a long-term rent dispute that came to mind, similar to a peasant farmer. The moratorium is over.

But violence is not isolated. It is everywhere in the valley and is growing rapidly.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have already investigated 100 murders this year as of the statistics updated on September 3.

Metro reports 101 murders — a 63% increase over last year when there were 62 murders.

In 67 crimes, guns were used to kill.

Downtown Area Command has experienced 19 of this year’s killings, but the crime is widespread. The least murders come from the Southwestern Las Vegas Valley of Enterprise Area Command.

Metro reports that 90 of this year’s murders have been cleared and 11 are unresolved. This is a clearance rate of 89%.

Another murder investigated by Metro involved a teenager accused of stabbing and killing a man at his home near Summerlin Hospital. When the crime was reported, the teen left school and returned to class later that day.

Apart from the Metro case, Henderson police investigated two murders in August.

And September murder statistics got off to a quick start in North Las Vegas. There, three men were shot dead in a two-hour span of Labor Day. The person, who was temporarily arrested the next day, told police that he had gone out to kill “anything without a home.”

Domestic violence continues to be a major factor, with 17 cases this year. This is currently a 31% increase over last year.

Death-to-death shifts have dramatically increased cases, including “perceived contempt” and “drug or alcohol-induced” shifts.

And statistics show that minorities are the victims in most cases. In 2021, 36 black men, 20 Hispanic men, and 4 “other” racial groups were killed, with 21 casualties to white men. Statistics on female victims are similar, with 9 black women and 5 Hispanic women compared to 6 white women.

Police have reported that 16 murders have involved gangsters so far this year. Metro also reports a high clearance rate for gang murders — 94%.
