A Michigan man was arrested and charged with setting up a pipe bomb outside two cell phone stores.
In the press release Ministry of Justice John Douglas Allen, 75, said he was charged with blackmailing and attempting damage or destruction of a building used in interstate commerce.
Two pipe bombs were left outside the AT & T store in Marie, Michigan and the Verizon store in Cheboygan, Michigan, according to criminal accusations.
The Justice Department said investigators found boxes with black tape with wires in both places.
“The two recovered devices were inspected by FBI Laboratory’s explosive devices, and it was concluded that the two devices were improvised explosive devices (IEDs), commonly referred to as homemade bombs or pipe bombs,” the federal prosecutor’s office said. The official said.
According to the affidavit, a threatening letter targeting the telecommunications carrier was also recovered.
Investigators were able to identify Allen as a suspect “based on video footage taken from cell phone stores and other neighbors.”
The date of appearance is undecided.
