Clearwater, Florida — A military father surprised his daughter, who was feeding dolphins at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Florida.
Last week, US Army special agent Jerry Darlingple appeared at a dolphin exhibition. He wanted to surprise his daughter Catherine.
“It took me a few seconds to actually register the person behind me. I was really crazy because I didn’t expect him to come back for at least another month,” said Catherine Darlingle. ..
Special Agent Darlingple was deployed in Afghanistan at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
Catherine said she would rely on the phone to talk to her father.
“He is a great support system for me because my dad and I are so intimate. At the time he left, it seemed like everything went crazy and he’s gone now. It’s you. I’m in a battle zone, but I’m in a pandemic. “
“I could only talk to him when he was on the internet, but it was still uneven. I could only hear his voice once a month,” he said.
Her family lives in Atlanta, where her father is based at Dobbins Air Force Base. She said the pandemic had crushed opportunities at the Georgia Aquarium and moved to Florida more than 500 miles away.
She received an internship at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in July. She wants to be an animal welfare expert.
“I visited as a guest in 2019, got hooked on the facility and started working and saving money,” she said.
Catherine visited with her family for about four days before her father returned to Atlanta.
“I think it’s really great to have a moment of unity there, and there’s a great moment of hope,” he said.
