Milwaukee — The Milwaukee Common Council resolved on Tuesday to approve a $ 627,000 settlement with former police chief Alfon Somorales.

The agreement means that the city and Morales will formally say goodbye and the federal proceedings filed by Morales will be withdrawn.

“It leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth,” said Milwaukee City Councilor Michael Murphy. “This was a completely avoidable issue. It lacks accountability.”

Morales and Milwaukee Reconciliation negotiations for several months After the judge ruled, he was unfairly demoted by the fire department and police committee after failing to meet the list of directives last August.

“I think it’s fair to taxpayers,” Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said at a press conference on July 13.

“The mayor had the only ability to end this situation,” Murphy said at a parliamentary meeting on Tuesday. “He could simply reject those directives.”
