Minneapolis — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz aims to protect state miscarriage services from the laws of neighboring states after the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to terminate the constitutional protection of this procedure. I signed the order.
Waltz said his actions should help prevent those seeking or providing abortions in Minnesota from facing legal consequences in other states. The Supreme Court’s opinion to overturn the Roe v. Wade case has enacted a trigger law to immediately stop most abortions in South Dakota and Wisconsin and end the abortion in North Dakota after 30 days.
Abortion is legal in Minnesota. Walz has vowed to refuse the request to hand over an individual accused of committing non-criminal assisted reproductive technology in Minnesota.
“My office remains a firewall to the law that reverses reproductive freedom,” Walz said.
Fargo’s Red River Women’s Clinic, North Dakota’s only abortion provider, will move across the river to Minnesota, clinic owner Tammy Cromenaker said Saturday. She said she had secured a place in Moorhead, but did not provide further details.
