Shakel Moore scored 20 seconds later and the United States won Canada Win Group B in the Conca Cuff Gold Cup on Sunday 1-0.
Moore’s goal was the fastest since the US record began in 1990. Clint Dempsey scored 30 seconds later against Ghana in the opening round of the 2014 World Cup for the Americans.
Both Canada and the United States were already guaranteed to move forward. The United States will finish at the top of the group and will face Costa Rica or Jamaica in the quarterfinals on July 25th.
The United States has won eight consecutive Canadian team records. The United States has been undefeated by Canada in 20 home matches since 1957, extending Concacaf’s winning streak to 13 in a row.
American coach Gregg Berhalter uses a lesser-established player in the Gold Cup. Top players such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams and Zack Steffen are at hand when the United States hosts Canada in the September World Cup qualifiers.
The United States scored from Sebastian Lletget’s first cross to the far post. Moore, 24, lags behind Tajon Bucannon and attacks from close range for his first international goal.
Matt Turner saved Cyle Larin on the 48th and New England Revolution teammate Bucannon on the 48th. After recovering from a hamstring injury, Reggie Cannon made his first appearance in the tournament on the 58th on behalf of Moore.
