Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) — Details were revealed this week in a man’s case accused of the case. A shooting incident that injured three people, including a toddler, near Lynnhaven Mall last fall.

Tanell Shyhiem Platt is one of three people accused of a shooting near the intersection of Linhaven Parkway and Avenger Drive after 3 pm on September 14.

The other two men charged are 23-year-old Keion N. Jones of Virginia Beach and 20-year-old Dominic J. Veale Jr. of Portsmouth.

Pratt appeared in the Virginia Beach District Court on Thursday, May 27, for a preliminary hearing.

All charges against him were found in the High Court during the hearing and charged with assault of a felony, reckless handling of firearms, use of firearms on consignment of a felony, and firing from a vehicle.

Two witnesses testified on Thursday. The two were a mother and a daughter, driving separate cars and at the intersection when the shooting hit. One of the bullets grabbed her daughter’s neck and bruised her aorta. The back window of her car was shot.

According to the prosecution, the target of the shooting was believed to be related to the gang, including a jeep with two gang members, a woman and a five-month-old daughter. None of the adults were shot, but the toddler was shot on the cheek. Her injury was not serious.

The mother and daughter, who were in separate cars instead of a jeep, have just left Dave and Busters at Lynnhaven Mall. Each of them had a child in their car.

Both women testified that they saw a man firing with a pistol. In court, the mother identified the person as Pratt. She said she had to avoid bullets to help her shot daughter. She screamed, remembering the day, and testified, “I was able to see all the blood.”

The woman who was shot said she missed the bullet hitting her eight-year-old daughter in inches. She testified that she did not see the criminal’s face.

The Virginia Beach Grand Jury will meet again on June 7, during which time Pratt’s trial will be due.
