Wichita, Kansas 2022-05-25 12:40:00 –

Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) — Kellogg’s orange traffic cones and barrels are back, so enjoy as much as you can. The Kansas Department of Transportation is ready to embark on the next phase of the East Kellogg Freeway Project.

However, before road construction resumes, KDOT is holding a public meeting to provide feedback on the options under consideration.

The meeting will take place Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at LifeChange Church Wichita, 10225 E. Kellogg Drive.

KDOT is considering improving US54 in two phases.

KDOT states that its purpose is to reduce traffic congestion, increase safety and support economic growth. The goal is to complete most of the construction by the end of 2025.

The modernization project is part of Kansas IKE program – A 10-year, $ 10 billion program focused on maintaining, modernizing and expanding Kansas’ transportation system.

KDOT meetings are an opportunity for the general public to discuss with the project team, provide feedback, and review the project timeline. There is no formal presentation. Participants can come and go at any time during the event.

In collaboration with KDOT, the Federal Highway Authority has begun an environmental assessment to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This conference serves as a public scoping method during the NEPA process.

Virtual options will be available online from May 26th to June 9th for those who are unable to attend. eastkellogg.ksdotike.org/..
