More than 100,000 pre-orders for Rosetown Pickup Shocker

Lordstown Motors announced on Monday that pre-orders for Endurance compact all-electric pickups, which are scheduled to go into production in September, have exceeded 100,000 units.

I talked about endurance earlier, but I didn’t pay homage to where it was assembled. Rosetown has a long history as a gathering place for Chevrolet and Pontiac vehicles. Vega, Monza, Cavalier, Cobalt, Cruise, and Pontiac like Sunbird and Sunfire were manufactured at the General Motors plant in Lordstown, Ohio.

Consistency was not an issue as it was considered the place where large, low-margin price leaders were built. When I was driving a Sunbird on the I-880 Freeway near Oakland, California, and the traffic stopped, the Lincoln Continental driver didn’t notice until it was too late and slammed into a Pontiac and folded like an accordion. Thanks to the men and women in Rosetown, I appeared without scratches while the cars were totaling.

With that in mind, it’s understandable why Rosetown founder and CEO Steve Burns chose this assembly plant to create the Endurance. Rosetown, a dedicated workforce of experienced workers, technicians and engineers, operated from 1966 to 2019 with the support of GM, after which workers call it a switch. I was idle because of it. Lordstown Motors purchased a 785 acre, 6.2 million square foot facility to manufacture the world’s first full-size all-electric pickup for commercial fleets.

Burns said: “Receiving 100,000 pre-orders from commercial vehicles is unprecedented in the history of the vehicle. In addition to the interest received from the federal, state, municipal and military fleets, the pickup truck industry. You can see why we feel we are about to revolutionize. “

The Endurance is a full-size all-electric pickup with a 250-mile forecast range and 600 horsepower, capable of towing up to £ 7,500. Endurance will initially be offered in a crew cab configuration with a medium length bed, with a federal rebate price of $ 45,000. With the prototype and alpha build completed, Rosetown’s first beta endurance car has been built and the company says it plans to go into production in September.

I haven’t received an invitation to test drive the Endurance or try the pace at the Hollyoaks Off Highway Vehicle Park near Detroit, but I’m waiting just in case.
