More than 4,400 new coronavirus cases in Kansas, 133 new COVID hospitalizations – Wichita, Kansas

Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) —State health officials say the number of cases of coronavirus in Kansas increased by 4,477 in two days. At the same time, 3,349 Kansas were negative. The state hasn’t seen a big two-day jump in positive cases since early September.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has not yet reported cases of the new COVID-19 Omicron variant, but states that there are an additional 47 cases of the Delta variant. See the chart below for county-specific information.

KDHE reports that 19 more Kansas deaths have been associated with COVID-19 since Monday. It raises the death toll in the state to 6,705. There have also been 133 new COVID-19 hospitalizations since the update on Monday morning.

Every Wednesday, the state updates the number of active coronavirus clusters in Kansas. This week is 157, 13 less than last week. Of the active clusters, 49 are in schools from kindergarten to high school in Kansas. KDHE will not name the location of the cluster unless there are currently 5 or more cases.

KDHE said that about 29,000 people have been vaccinated with COVID-19 in the last two days.

  • 7,189 Kansas received the first dose of vaccine
  • 6,521 received a second dose
  • And 15,271 people received the third dose

Of the Kansas states eligible for vaccination, KDHE states that 60.62% have been vaccinated at least once and 52.49% have completed a series of vaccinations.
