Working with the San Jose Police Department, local authorities were able to link the murder to a missing boy in California.

A family friend told police that the boy resembled a synthetic sketch seen in news media reports. A mother identified as 35-year-old Samantha Moreno Rodriguez last met Liam about two weeks ago.

Based on the investigation, police could place Rodriguez’s 2007 Dark Blue Dodge Caliber on May 26 in Laguna Beach, California, and then in Victorville, California.

“Liam was discovered early in the morning of May 28,” Spencer said. Shortly thereafter, on May 29, it was discovered that the vehicle was traveling on an I-70 near Grand Junction, Colorado.

Rodriguez was last seen in a hotel room in the Denver district on May 31st. She checked in to the facility in the same vehicle.
