KOIN, Oregon — Almost a year after the body was first discovered, a girl was identified as a child killed in a rest area in Lincoln County — her mother was charged with two women. Is one of them.
On December 10, 2020, a person was walking near a rest area. HB Vandusa Forest State Scenic Corridor Located in Lincoln City, a lush state park. The individual encountered a duffel bag — a child’s body was hidden in it.
According to authorities, the level of corruption indicated that the child had died for 30-60 days at that time. DNA analysis later revealed that it was a girl between the ages of 7-9.
Now, in less than a year, the child has been identified as 9-year-old Haley Koblenz.
Two women, the girl’s mother and her mother’s girlfriend, were arrested for worsening murder.
Haley was born in California. Oregon police say they have lived with their mother and her mother’s girlfriend in several places around Oregon and the Pacific Northwest since 2015.
Officials say Haley was not reported missing at the time of her death. OSP did not provide details on how she died.
This Tuesday, OSP found Haley’s mother and her mother’s girlfriend, 29-year-old Shauna Browning and 34-year-old Lauren Harrison, with the help of the FBI in Detroit, Michigan. Authorities say Browning and Harrison were arrested after investigators provided search warrants in their car and hotel room.
Both women are currently being detained in a detention facility in Michigan on suspicion of worsening murder. They are held without bail.
