Motorcyclist killed in Hilo traffic collision – Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawaii 2021-10-20 01:00:00 –

Police on the Big Island of Hawaii are investigating a fatal road accident involving motorcyclists and Kiasedans on Monday in the areas of Saddle Road and Kaumana Drive in Hilo.

Police responded to a 6:30 pm car accident and determined that a 2014 Honda Grom motorcycle was driving east (downhill) on Kaumana Drive and approaching a saddle road intersection on a wet road. bottom. The motorcyclist crossed Kaumana Drive from the east-facing lane to the west-facing gravel shoulder, causing the motorcycle to lose control and fall, stopping at a saddle road intersection.

A woman driving a 2020 Kia sedan running west on Saddle Road turned left to avoid a motorcycle in the lane and then attacked a motorcyclist lying in the middle of the road. At the time of the collision, the road was wet, dark and raining.

It turns out that the male operator of the bike is unresponsive in the middle of the road. He was transferred to the Hilo Medical Center and sentenced to death at 7:50 pm. An autopsy was ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Police investigating a traffic accident have determined that speed and wet road conditions are factors in the investigation. The motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, but was wearing a black hoodie. At this time, police are not determining whether alcohol or drugs are the cause.

The motorcyclist’s name is reserved until positive identification and notification of close relatives.

The female driver of the Kia sedan was not injured in a traffic accident.

This is the 21st fatal road accident in 2021 compared to the 13 fatal road accidents of the same period last year.
