Brian Christopher Koberger He has been in custody in connection with the stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students, capping nearly seven weeks of terror and frustration with the families of the murdered students.
Steve Goncalves, the father of one of the victims, Cary Goncalves, said, “This is the first joy we’ve had in nearly seven weeks.” It gives us hope, and we haven’t had hope in a long time.”
Authorities collated 19,000 records and tracked 28-year-old Coberger to his family home in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, more than 2,000 miles from the murder scene. he was arrested in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania.
Moscow police chief James Fry said Friday that “there will be no return of these young students, even if they are arrested.” “However, we believe that justice can be found through criminal proceedings.”
The bodies of Gonsalves, Madison Morgen, Zana Carnoldle, and Ethan Chapin were found on November 13, having been stabbed multiple times while sleeping inside a house near the University of Idaho campus.
For weeks, there seemed to be little movement on the case, at least publicly.
Coberger is currently being held without bail and will spend the weekend in Pennsylvania.his Extradition to Idaho It is scheduled for next week.
The district attorney, who will eventually charge Coberger once he returns to Idaho, said the arrest does not end the investigation.
Police are still trying to determine the motive for the killing.
