Auckland — According to a recently submitted court record, police admitted that a 42-year-old man had beaten and stabbed a man after he was arrested at the end of an hour’s standoff.

Tran’s account was backed by other witnesses, police said.

Tran was arrested in the same place two days later, but barricaded himself in an RV for hours using buckets, tarpaulins, and other items. Police eventually persuaded him to surrender. During the standoffs, Trang is said to have wielded what turned out to be a replica rifle.
