Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (WBTW) — The Myrtle Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce states that occupancy and travel data show that the area will be the busiest Memorial Day weekend of the last few years.
“The difference between May 2020 and May 2021 is amazing and I think everyone in the business community feels very optimistic. I am very grateful for the recovery. “Says Karen Riordan of the Myrtle Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce. President and CEO.
Riordan said the company was particularly happy after facing last year and suffering a decline in visitors and a loss of revenue. “Last year there was a lot of fear and uncertainty.”
According to Riordan, the hotel has 90% occupancy, the highest level ever this year. Their data also show travel and occupancy rates from 2019.
Riordan said this weekend is an indicator of how busy this summer is.
“Everything we’ve seen and reported from national media outlets is that this is a great summer road trip to the United States,” said Riodan.
“It’s a good sign for us because we’re in the 90% drive market, but looking at some of the equations, aviation services are much higher in MYR,” Riordan added.
“It’s great to be out of the house and stop being frustrated. I’ve been trapped in my house for too long,” said Aaron McRae, a visitor from Tennessee.
Riordan also encourages patience as it can increase waiting times for restaurants and attractions. She also encourages safety this weekend by keeping a social distance.
It’s going to be a fun weekend for many, but Riordan and others want everyone to remember what this holiday is.
“Thanks to all who made the anniversary weekend happy, served our country, and paid the ultimate price.”
