Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (WBTW) — Sports tourism on the Grand Strand is growing as this week’s Myrtle Beach Invitational attracts thousands of people from all over the country.

The executive director of sports tourism at the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce in Jonathan Paris said he expects to exceed pre-pandemic levels of sports tourism this year.

“There are a lot of people who have never been here and they have really seen their destination. I hope they will come back on vacation,” he said.

With eight college basketball teams nationwide, followed by thousands of fans, Myrtle Beach Invitational is a huge boost to sports tourism in the region.
