Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (WBTW) – If you have a gift to email on holidays, consider sending it immediately.
Steve Cockerham, who owns a mail room in Myrtle Beach, recommends that customers send things faster than usual. He expects more shipments next week.
“Hopefully they’ll be thinking about coming a week early and giving their packages a little more buffer to get there in time for the holidays,” Cockerham said.
Cockerham wants the buffer to help address potential delays. He says this is possible this season.
“It’s not uncommon to have a shortage of postal workers, UPS drivers, and luggage handlers,” said Cocker Ham. “Therefore, there is already a delay throughout the year, so if the volume goes up over the holidays, it will be amplified.”
UPS said there is currently no delay in South Carolina. Shipping companies are preparing for a large number of big years. FedEx plans to ship 100 million more times than in 2019. Meanwhile, the USPS expects to deliver up to 950 million packages this season. The post office hires thousands of seasonal positions and leases extra space to catch up with them.
The emails by date from the USPS are:
- USPS Retail Ground® Service — December 15th
- First Class Mail® Service — December 17th
- Priority Mail® Service — December 18th
- Priority Mail Express® Service — December 23
