NASA’s asteroid hunter Lucy soars into sky with diamonds – Tampa, Florida

Tampa, Florida 2021-10-17 10:33:00 –

Cape Canaveral, Florida (AP) —A NASA spacecraft named Lucy flew into the sky with diamonds on a 12-year quest to explore eight record-breaking asteroids. Lucy blew up from Cape Canaveral, Florida before dawn on Saturday.

The rocket is sending Lucy on a roundabout journey to Jupiter’s asteroid in Troy near Jupiter. These mysterious cosmic rocks that swarm in Jupiter’s orbit are believed to be the pristine remnants of planet formation.

This is the first mission ever made.

Lucy will travel nearly 4 billion miles before reaching her eighth final goal in 2033.

The spacecraft has discs made of diamonds grown in the lab as one of the scientific instruments.
