Nashville, Tennessee (WKRN) — Nashville’s mother continues to seek justice five years after her son was shot dead. The killer has never been caught.

28-year-old Vontrekus Lockett was shot in an apartment in the Hampton Chase complex on Borowood Drive.

“I always feel these creepy and weird feelings, and I told my mom that something was about to happen,” recalls Bernita Rockett. “I actually got a call from his fiancée saying he was shot at that time.”

Bernita was two hours away from Jackson when she received a tragic call. At that time, she was visiting with her mother and grandchildren. The whole family jumped into the car and headed for Nashville.

“My heart went here and there,” Bernita said.

On January 16, 2016, police responded to an ongoing robbery call and was quickly updated to shoot at 11:40 pm. According to Metro Police, a friend identified as Rocket and Saleem Willis has left Rocket’s apartment.

“It’s painful for me to see a young man engaged. Knowing that a young man visiting his mother on Mother’s Day can’t experience it at all from him because he was taken away. It hurts me to see him, away, “Bernita said. “Everyone who knew him and met him knew he was a good person. They talked so high about him, and I only because he is my son. I didn’t say this. He was a good person. “

Two others were injured that night, including Rocket’s girlfriend who was shot in the foot. Both other victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, Rocket, his friend, and the shooter went into the apartment and ran Rocket’s girlfriend behind the apartment. At that point, she began to hear the gunshots. At the time of the shooting, there were three children in the apartment. No child was injured.

“I want to know who did this for my baby, why did you do this for our family, even if it means I walk there with them and crouch down. I would be happy to do that, “Bernita said.

Gunman is described as a black man in his mid-twenties, wearing a black zippered jacket, gray sweatpants, and a black-and-white bandana at the bottom of his face.

“I’m not going to forget what you did, but I forgive you because it’s right for me. I want you to be able to turn yourself back, I give you a heart Have it, I want you to have a conscience. We loved him, and we miss him, “Bernita told the shooter directly.
