Tulsa, Oklahoma — A shortage of chlorine supply could make the backyard pool used this summer available. Industry experts say the shortage could worsen and demand could increase this summer.
A local pool company told Two Works For You that the demand for chlorine tablets is similar to the demand for toilet paper during shutdown. People stockpile chlorine and sell them online at higher prices.
The shortage began after a fire broke out in a chemical plant, supplying 90% of all chlorine used in the United States. The surge in backyard pools during the pandemic only exacerbated the problem.
Fiesta Pool and Spa says pool supply has skyrocketed over the past year. The company predicted a shortage and stockpiled its supply for its customers, but chlorine is still difficult to obtain.
“When we have the opportunity, it’s a good idea to keep it in stock for the summer. The product will continue to spill, but it can look like toilet paper like in the early days of the pandemic.” Fiesta Pool and Spa retail manager said.
Good news for anyone planning to go to the public pool this summer. Tulsa’s Parks and Recreation Dept. Also predicted a shortage and stockpiled enough chlorine tubs in all pools during the summer.
