The Washington Nationals chose outfielder Gerardo Parra’s contract on Sunday and infielder Luis Garcia as Triple A Rochester following the match on Saturday night.
34-year-old Para will join the Nationals after hitting .219 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 21 games against Triple A Rochester. Para spent the 2020 season with the Yomiuri Giants of the Japan Professional League.
Para returned to the Nationals on a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training in 2021. He was a key member of Washington’s 2019 World Series winning team when he hit .250 with eight home runs and 42 RBIs in 89 games.
Two-time Gold Glove Award-winning Para is a career .276 batter with 88 home runs and 522 RBIs in 1,466 games in Arizona Diamondbacks (2009-14), Milwaukee Brewers (2014-15) and Baltimore Orioles (2015). Colorado Rockies (2016-18), San Francisco Giants (2019), Nationals.
In 11 games this season, 21-year-old Garcia hit .222 and scored three runs.
The Nationals have also appointed minor league left-handed Ben Braymer.
