Lincoln, Nebraska (KMTV) — On Wednesday, the Department of Health and Human Services, Nebraska (DHHS) announced the very rare and only death of a complete vaccinated person with COVID-19 in the state.
According to the DHHS announcement, the death was a woman in her 80s with an underlying illness who died more than 14 days after completing the Pfizer vaccination series.
Dr. Gary Anson, Chief Medical Officer of Nebraska, said: Although clinical trials did not result in the death of vaccinated individuals, we understand that no vaccine or drug is 100% effective when used by millions of people. This does not deny the importance of vaccination and all the positive effects of vaccination. Our state is approaching 50% of the total fully vaccinated population and needs to maintain its momentum. All Nebraskas who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated as soon as possible. “
DHHS emphasized that this was a rare event and the only death of a person from COVID-19 after vaccination in the state.
“Of the 2,244 people who died of COVID-19 in Nebraska, only one was fully vaccinated, which is 0.0004, or 0.04% of all COVID-19 deaths.” The bureau says.
The woman was hospitalized at the time of her death and was a resident of the Tou Rivers Public Health Service district serving people near Kearney.
The weekly death toll associated with COVID-19 is the lowest since March 2020. DHHS said the vaccine “probably played a major role in the sharp decline and reduction in case numbers.”
Vaccines help most people develop the desired immune system response, but DHHS states that older people and a small number of people with a weakened immune system may not be able to initiate a strong immune response. Vaccination is all of our obligations and responsibilities and protects ourselves and the most vulnerable of us. “
DHHS also provided national figures.
“Vaccine breakthrough cases occur in only a small proportion of vaccinated people. According to the CDC, demographics and vaccine characteristics of people with reported breakthrough vaccine infections. No unexpected patterns have been identified. Of the 95 million fully vaccinated people in the United States, only 112 have been confirmed dead from COVID-19. “
Looking at these figures, the percentage of people who died after complete vaccination is about 0.0001% nationwide.
