Lincoln, Nebraska (AP) — Nebraska legislators are proposing new coronavirus protection to meat packaging workers in a new bill.
At the suggestion of Senator Tony Vargas of Omaha, meat packaging companies need to provide masks and ample space to keep them socially distant from the spread of the virus.
Companies will also have to pay sick leave to workers who test positive for the virus, apart from other paid sick leave.
Vargas introduced similar measures last summer, but the bill did not progress.
There are many meat packaging workers in his South Omaha district, and his father died last year from a complication of the coronavirus.
