Brownsville, Brooklyn — Behind a six-story apartment in Brownsville was a very disturbing scene for most of Saturday, after a young mother. Also tried to kill her 4-week-old baby and toddlerAccording to witnesses.
But they also said it could have been worse without the swift action of their neighbors and impressive athletics, just as the situation was tragic.
Karlchin’s apartment is in a row of houses behind a 100-block building on the Rockaway Parkway where the tragedy took place. He was awake from a nap around 11:20 am on Saturday.
“I was lying in bed,” he said. “Within a few seconds, you’ll hear a rattling noise, like your body hitting the ground. Pick up your home phone and dial 911.”
According to the NYPD, a young mother pushed an air conditioner out of a bedroom window and threw a newborn baby into a 2.5-story pavement. According to police, she also defeated her two-year-old son. Then the mother jumped off. According to police, all three were naked.
According to witnesses, Chin’s sister-in-law, Panaché Harrison, was even more troubled by what happened next.
“She took her baby with her feet … and a’boom boom’,” she said of her young mother.
Harrison counted the number of times she said her mother had hit the baby with cement. Harrison said he wanted to intervene, but couldn’t scale the eight-foot wire mesh fence that separates her home from where her mother and children were.
But her brother-in-law ran right because of the barriers that prevented them from intervening.
“He was like a superman and jumped over the fence,” Harrison said.
According to witnesses, Chin was able to reach out to her mother and children and stop her from hitting her baby three times.
“”[I] I used my forearm to loosen the baby’s grip, “Chin said.
He was able to calm his mother until the paramedics and police arrived a few minutes later.
“She is clearly not in her correct state of mind,” he said. “She must have had memory loss. She actually thanked me and told me [to] Take care of her daughter. “
Harrison said he needed an understanding of his mother at this point.
“She shouldn’t be judged … because we are all experiencing depression,” she said.
The newborn was listed in a dangerous condition, and the mother and 2-year-old child were reported in a stable condition by police.
Chin’s family and neighbors said it would have been worse without him.
In response to being called a hero, he said “just dignity.” “Any decent person just does.”
