Nashville, Tennessee (WSMV) – Road closures will soon take place prior to the presidential debate at Belmont University.
They start at noon on Wednesday.
“It’s a little overwhelming. That’s a big deal,” said neighbor David Allen.
Allen and his family are new to Nashville. Preparations for the presidential debate are taking place in his neighborhood.
“That’s why the fence is literally up across from our house,” Allen said.
Road closures affect businesses as well as the suburbs of Belmont.
“This is another thing small businesses have to deal with. Recently, a tornado broke out during a pandemic,” said Bongo Java owner Bob Bernstein.
Bernstein’s business is directly opposite Belmont. He plans to stay open.
“On the contrary, this is good for the city. This is good for the neighborhood,” Bernstein said.
Not everyone sees it that way. A nearby company, Proper Bagel, posted on Instagram saying it will be closed this week.
They argue that employees and delivery trucks will not be able to get their buildings due to road closures.
Belmont University issued a statement in News 4 on Sunday.
“Belmont University was chosen as the venue for the 2020 presidential debate last October and has been working closely with federal and local authorities for the past year to prepare for safe and secure events. Events of this size pose challenges and inconveniences, but we have been working hard not only to keep nearby companies running, but also to benefit from the October 22 presidential debate. These efforts include:
- Share information about security boundaries when they were established 5 weeks ago
- Partner with MNPD to ensure that your company can stay open all week
- Provides weekly information on access to restaurants such as takeaways, deliveries and pickups, including a 30-hour period during which the required closure of Belmont Boulevard vehicles (excluding pedestrian traffic) is in place. ..
- Actively promote neighborhood businesses to all media and discuss guests
- Connect to Visiting Media to Enable Catering Contracts “
For neighbors like Allen, they have plans to navigate this week.
“So I don’t think there are many problems,” Allen said.
