Sacramento (CBS13) – After a big night in the wine country and a trip to Maui, Governor Gavin Newsom and other state leaders put forward a philosophy of “doing what I say, not what I say.” Called for the hypocrisy to adopt.
The Governor apologized for attending a gorgeous birthday party at the French Laundry in Napa.
Several lawmakers have been found at a resort on Maui.
“If you’re going to say something, own it,” said Lee Bias of Sacramento. “Meetings are not as important as people’s health.”
Bias has recently been diagnosed with cancer and says it is hypocritical to find out that her local leaders are sunbathing in paradise on Maui. Most other people are required to stay home to protect someone like her who has weakened immunity.
“I hate it. Do it as I say, not as I say.” I always hated it, you have to be a good example, “she said. Told.
Although travel recommendations have been implemented, about six state legislators attended an annual meeting hosted by the non-profit independent voter project.
CBS13 has contacted several lawmakers to confirm attendance, including member Jim Cooper, who serves part of Sacramento and San Joaquin County, and Heath Flora, who serves San Joaquin County.
No calls and messages were returned.
“If you want people to follow the rules, you should definitely set an example by following the rules,” Bias said.
Other lawmakers defended the trip by saying it was safe, despite advising people not to travel or rally during the current surge in COVID.

Gary Dietrich, a political expert, said he would send the wrong message.
“The current challenge is in the midst of COVID, and people are told not to travel. The idea that their legislature has flown back to Hawaii is required by the average person to follow. It doesn’t seem to match the requirements, “he said.
The governor also noticed that he did not follow his own guidelines for social distance.
A photo taken by Fox 11 in Los Angeles shows the governor of the California Medical Association, his wife, and lobbyist at the French Laundry in Youngtville earlier this month.
No one was wearing a mask – and that’s something his members can’t easily let go of.
“That’s the stupid choice he made,” said Julio Rivera of Sacramento.
The restaurant was located in Napa County and was allowed to provide limited indoor service at dinner. But now it can only be served outdoors.
