Netflix announced on Monday that “Operation Varsity Blues” will be released on March 17th.
Named after the FBI’s operation that exposed the scandal, this documentary isn’t a convicted celebrity like Huffman or Laflin, but rather a singer tricking them into taking their children to an elite college. Focus on how to persuade many other wealthy clients.
In its announcement, Netflix said the documentary would use “an innovative combination of FBI eavesdropped conversation interviews and story reproductions between the singer and his clients.”
This documentary is by filmmakers Chris Smith and John Carmen, and previous credits included the Netflix Fyre Festival documentary and “Tiger King.”
Actor Matthew Modine plays the singer, the mastermind of the operation, who secretly recorded conversations with his parents and coaches, turned over and began working with investigators.
More than 50 people have been charged with scandals in which parents bribed their children to trick someone into their entrance exams or pretended to be a sports star athlete with their children not playing.
The singer is expected to plead guilty to conspiracy and several other charges and testify in the defendant’s trial. He has not been sentenced.
