Las Vegas (FOX5)-Nevada leaders are pressing the US Senate to pass George Floyd justice as soon as possible under police law.
The bill will end certain police techniques, including strangler figs and carotid hold at the federal level. The bill will also help improve police training and invest in community programs.
Another provision of the bill would empower the Attorney General to intervene and hold local police under federal civil rights law.
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford recently joined Maura Healey, Massachusetts, in a statement on behalf of the Democratic Attorney Generals Association, calling for immediate action.
The statement, in part, looks like this:
If a person in power abuses it, the judicial system will not work. For over 400 years, African-Americans and communities of other colors have encountered a criminal justice system that has consistently discriminated against, racially profiled, and treated them as unequal. The judicial system requires comprehensive and holistic reforms.
Black Lives Matter. It’s time for our judicial system to admit that they too.

The bill has not yet been voted in the Senate. The Chamber of Commerce’s 60-vote filibuster rule will require 10 Republicans to pass.
