Santa Ana — A 22-year-old man was charged with sexually assaulting an 18-year-old Chapman University freshman outside the dormitory early Friday morning.
Darante Jerome BellAnaheim’s 22-year-old was charged with felony assaults intended for sex crimes and foreign body insertion.
Bell can be sentenced to up to eight years in state prison if convicted of all charges. He is currently detained at the Orange Theoracy Facility for $ 500,000.
At midnight on September 23, 2021, Bell was accused of wearing a mask and attacking an 18-year-old student who was video chatting with his boyfriend. The woman counterattacked the attackers who fled the scene when people came to help the victims.
Numerous surveillance cameras have captured attackers leaving the scene.
Bell was arrested by Orange Police after his parents saw news reports of the attack and recognized his son as an interested person.
“College students need to focus on learning rather than worrying about being sexually assaulted by someone in the shadows outside the dormitory,” said Todd Spitzer, District Attorney for Orange County. “This brave woman did what she could to fight back and ask for help. Thankfully, the individual was soon arrested and unable to prey on unsuspecting college students. And now The Orange County Law Firm will do everything possible to ensure that this sexual predator is held liable. “
Austin Niemann, deputy district attorney of the sexual assault unit, has charged the case.
