Columbus, Ohio (AP) — Ohio lawmakers have submitted a bill that gives college athletes in the state the right to make money through approval and sponsorship contracts.
Senator Niraj Antani is a Republican on the outskirts of Dayton.
He announced the bill at Ohio State University on Monday. There, athletic director Jean Smith put his weight behind the concept.
Several other states have introduced similar NIL bills for “names, images, portraits.”
Federal law is also pending. The US Supreme Court in March heard athletes argue that NCAA’s current rules are unfair and violate federal antitrust laws designed to promote competition.
