Merced County, CA (KFSN)-A new community resource center under construction in downtown Merced will serve nonprofits and provide North Valley residents with new job opportunities.

Downtown Merced Nonprofit Resource Center opens on Main Street and M Street.

The community center houses several nonprofits that work with the United Way in Merced County, including the American Red Cross and the Youth Leadership Institute.

Another addition to development is a certified community kitchen. It also acts as a full restaurant bar with a training program for the food service industry.

Manuel Alvarado, CEO of United Way, said:

Construction of this project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

As it nears completion, United Way will ask the community for help in naming the community kitchen.
