New Orleans (Press Release) — The New Orleans LGBTQ + community and its allies have partnered with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) to build a home for the diligent New Orleans family and New Orleans during pride months. Celebrate LGBTQ + homeowners. The first effort, called Pride Build, will take place on Saturday, June 4th and Saturday, June 18th, consistent with National Pride Month. Anyone interested in participating can register here:

“Too many people in the LGBTQ + community know the difficulty of finding affordable homes and the obstacles to owning a home for the first time,” said Jay Huff Statler, Chief Advancement Officer at NOAHH. .. “That’s why we invite the city’s powerful and diverse LGBTQ + community and allies to partner with Habitat to provide local families with an affordable homeownership opportunity.”

The house built during the pride build is purchased by Trilith, the single mom of two 8-year-old autistic twin boys. What makes Habitat’s home affordable is that Habitat acts as a lender and is interest-free. This means that Trilith may pay less each month to own a home than to rent a home. Instead of a down payment, all Habitat homebuyers record 250 volunteer hours at Habitat construction sites or Restores to help others become homebuyers for the first time.

“I know home ownership is my ticket to get out of the virtuous circle of poverty,” Trilis said. “My dream for my sons is the same as my mother to protect my children from my struggle. The biggest difference is that my children look at me with peace of mind and enjoy the views of life and the new home. Don’t be stressed by being. My advice to anyone who has doubts about becoming a homeowner is to submit your application, and Habitat will help you. “

The Pride Build will be held on 1508 Tennessee Avenue, 70117, New Orleans, Louisiana, and welcomes all individual and group participants. Each volunteer receives a pride build T-shirt, helmet, nail apron, breakfast, lunch and post-build celebrations.

LGBTQ + Pride Month is celebrated every June to celebrate the impact of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other queer individuals on local, national and international history. The New Orleans Pride Event will be held throughout June and the Pride Weekend will be set from June 9th to 12th. Click here for a complete list of New Orleans Pride events.
