An early ruling in the proceedings filed by the ACLU in June 2020 called for a 50% reduction in prison population, which could have resulted in the release of more than 1,800 prisoners to the community. With the help of Sheriffs and Orthodontic Services staff, Orange County Prison was able to mitigate the Covid-19 epidemic while prioritizing public security without releasing dangerous prisoners.

“Navigating the pandemic presented a challenge, but I am proud of the extraordinary work of our staff who continued to provide the health and safety of our detainees,” said Sheriff.
