New Santa Ana | The Santa Ana Poem of the week is The First Drum (Black love is…) by Marcus Omari – Santa Ana, California

Santa Ana, California 2021-02-23 23:09:16 –

The· Santa Anna Literature Association This year we will be releasing new poems by local poets every week. This week’s poem is the first drum (Black Love …) To commemorate Lucille Clifton, Marcus Oumari..

The first drum (Black Love …)
In memory of Lucille Clifton

From the first drum
Shame and sin (or as they say)
So we sneak up on it like a thief at night
Battle of flightless birds baptized by bullets
And eyelashes were taught that we should know better
Nothing else, and some are still afraid of holy water
Some people can’t swim to save their lives

Please come to celebrate with me
Legacy fusion
Rise of tribal currency
Salvation rift under the skin
Lift the imperfect Star Shine to heaven
The sound of red clay was worrisome at our feet
May fall to Earth again

Violation of love breach running through Wall Street
Drowning colonial brass dissonance
Hold hands with faith and teach
Bloody melody with percussive rhythm
Made in a dark era full of sun – to guide our way
And we don’t lose our own eyesight or sound at 2/4
4/4 –808 or also known as Seoul

It’s spiritual to non-believers and it’s a delight
For those who are willing to suspend their beliefs and call them home
In the doorway where we are standing – happy and happy
Harmony of shades that are not ashamed of tenor and tone
No model or metronome
Measure over time what that means
Just that fear is the real meaning

Please come to celebrate with me
Development of intimacy
People born romantically
To overcome death every day and beyond
Moonlight We learn to love ourselves as ourselves
Our own gaze, we are known for this – freedom
Selected children

The only thing bigger than you
In myself – show and tell
Skin-rope-shell
Refresh without being shy at the well
Gather again
Kemet’s call begins
In the dark roar of the drums
