Greenville, South Carolina (WSPA)-Part of the Swamp Rabbit Trail hasn’t been open for months, but without the owners of a few restaurants and retailers who have expressed concern about business-impact closures. May not be open yet.

The Unity Park and part of the Swan Prabbit Trail have been work zones for some time.

Southern Side Brewing is one of the businesses right next to the trail.

For people like Lydia Tabeville who like to walk from downtown to restaurants, trail locations like Southern Side were hard to reach due to all closures.

“It took a long time to find this place because the trail was closed,” Turbeville said.

Thouzerside owner Nate Tomforde said the revenue was hit by it.

“Sales fell by about 40%,” said Tomforde.

Tom Forde and other business owners on the trail brought the issue to the city council.

“When we started emailing and calling, we took action shortly afterwards,” said Tom Forde.

I heard the city council.

On Friday night, the city opened one of the bridges and part of the sidewalk.

Tomforde hopes this is a great relief and that more and more people will come to visit as before.

“I tend to understand a bit because it’s difficult to build. I thought they didn’t understand how much it was affecting our business,” Tomforde said.

A lot of construction is still underway around the area. Unity Park is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2022.
