HOLLYWOOD-There is a new incarnation of the classic television series “The Great Days,” following the turbulent late 1960s black middle-class family in Alabama. It provides a fresh perspective on the times. But as the original returned to the 1980s, it still focuses on family and friendship.

Instead of getting to know Kevin Arnold and his family, we now meet 12-year-old Dean, played by rookie EJ Williams.

“I don’t want to make a copy of this’Wonderful Days’. It wasn’t the point of making it. The point of making it was to allow us to tell another story.” Williams said.

Durehill starred as a tough dad who loves Williams’ family.

“I think that’s what makes this show so beautiful. We are a family unit and we all have a perspective, but we have the love and respect that connects us and keeps moving forward as a unit. “Hill said.

“This show is an original remix,” Williams said. “The remix has some of the same lyrics that are a universal coming-of-age theme, but the remix is a different family. The struggle was different.”

Hill says he was a fan of the original. But he was also keenly aware of what was missing from the show.

“I haven’t seen myself reflected as much as I expected,” Hill said. “That is, the idea that we can now re-explore that time from a different perspective is very interesting to me.”

This new version does not shy about the struggle faced by the black family in 1968. Even now, more than 50 years later, it reminds us that there is still much work to be done on equality.

“You can see how the Williams family thrives in the turmoil outside the walls,” Hill said. “I hope it will be reflected in today’s society. In the midst of our struggle, and when there are many struggles, we return to the community, return to relationships and respect each other. When we get back to doing, maybe we can say so, with our own “wonderful days”, we can move the ball forward. “

“Great Days” will debut Wednesday at 8:30 | ABC at 7:30 c.
