New York City requires all local government workers to be vaccinated against Covid-19, eliminating the option of testing and participating in groups of similarly authoritative states and local governments.
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the order on Wednesday. This means that about 46,000 city officials will need to be first shot or may lose their jobs by October 29th. The new regulation targets 160,500 workers, of whom approximately 71% are partially or fully vaccinated, according to official estimates. According to the city, 70% of police and 60% of fire department staff were shot at least once.
