Boston (WHDH)-A heroic firefighter with severe burns who saves people from the flames of New Hampshire was released from the hospital on Monday.
Steve Des Ruisseaux, Manchester’s fire brigade captain, helped save six people from a house fire earlier this month. A 59-year-old woman died in flames, and Des Ruisseaux suffered severe burns when his equipment was caught on a ladder.
DesRuisseaux was burned to more than one-third of his body and was taken to a mass hospital. His fellow Manchester firefighters added improvements such as railings and pull-down shower nozzles to his home in preparation for his return. Local firefighters stepped up to help families pay to stay nearby and offered a Thanksgiving dinner at the hospital.
“It was a very different Thanksgiving, but it was Thanksgiving, and that’s what I’m grateful for,” said Colleen, wife of Des Ruisseaux.
According to Colleen, most people need to go to a rehab facility after recovering in the hospital, but her husband is returning home soon.
“He’s a tough guy, working hard to get over all this and get back to what we normally think … he’s in his space and he’s looking forward to recovering in his space. “He’s sometimes really frustrated and wants to do it right away, but doctors tell him he’s far beyond what he expected in the last three weeks. increase.”
Colleen added that Steve wants to fight the fire with his work family within six months.
“He was one of the best men I have ever met, I was lucky enough to marry him, and he has a good personality, and he with his friends He is a caring person for his family, and those firefighters are his family, “said Colleen.
