San Jose, CA (AP) — The NHL has suspended 21 forward Ebander Kane games in San Jose Sharks after submitting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card.
The league said Kane was not eligible to play in New Jersey until November 30th.
Kane also loses about $ 1.68 million out of his $ 7 million salary this season. The money will be sent to the player’s emergency aid fund.
“We apologize to our teammates, the San Jose Sharks organization, and all Sharks fans for violating the NHL COVID protocol,” Kane said in a statement. “I made a mistake. I truly regret and take responsibility.”
Kane added that he would seek counseling during his suspension to help him make better decisions in the future.
The League also announced that a simultaneous investigation into allegations of sexual and physical abuse against Kane by his estranged wife could not be substantiated.
