Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) – New Mexico United is addressing allegations that fans have made racist statements against players on the opposing team. The club is currently in the process of investigating with the United Soccer League.
They quickly said they would never tolerate any form of hatred on the stands or in the field. “If we can identify the person who made these suspicious statements, we will ban that individual or those individuals for the rest of their lives, which is never acceptable at New Mexico United,” said David, NM United’s Director of Communications. Karl said.
Little is known at this time, such as who was involved and what happened in the match against Loudoun United on Saturday night. Dissatisfaction with the outcome of a match or performance, a post from New Mexico is no excuse for any kind of abuse.
Karl was unable to determine the cause of the reported incident. “I still don’t know when it happened. Obviously, I don’t know who did it or who it was directed to,” Karl said.
The club and USL are looking for video or audio of what happened and are asking anyone with information to contact the team. NM United is unaware of other examples of fan bans.
They also said they wouldn’t allow people to throw food, drinks or anything else to referees, coaches, or players. It was probably aimed at the referee, as they saw it on Saturday night. It is unclear if anyone involved in the reported racial abuse was involved.
