The long drought is over. 5th place Texas A & M University-Commerce football team will face 12th place Colorado-Pueblo in the Neta and Eddie Rose Thunder Bowl on Thursday night in the first match of the 2021 season.

This is the first game of the season for both teams. A & M-Commerce fell to the NCAA Regional Final 11-3 in 2019. Colorado-Pueblo fell to the NCAA Regional Semifinals with a record of 11-2 in 2019. Both teams’ seasons ended in the hands of Minnesota in the 2019 NCAA Division II Playoffs.

A & M-Commerce is ranked 8th in AFCA Coaches Poll, 5th in Media Poll, and 7th in Lindy’s preseason preview. Colorado-Pueblo is ranked 12th in all three rankings.

Lions are looking for their first win over the 2-0 Thunder Wolves in the series. Pueblo brought down A & M commerce in 2019 and 2018 with scores of 24-17 and 23-13, respectively. Lions are always 2-2 against RMAC schools. Thunder Wolves is a low-ranking team at both previous meetings and will be held again on Thursday. This is the second straight time the team will meet in Pueblo.

Lions were named to the top team in a pre-season poll held by the Lone Star Conference. A & M-Commerce collected 15 of the 23 1st place votes with 175 points in the preseason polls. This is 23 points ahead of Angelo State University. Lions last appeared at the top of the preseason poll in 2018, and Lions’ last LSC title was in 2016. A & M Commerce has been 41-5 in LSC in the last six seasons and has not lost in multiple conference games. In the season from 2013.
