NEW ORLEANS – The NOLA Coalition, a new alliance of local nonprofits, civic groups and businesses, supports recent moves by New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell and the city council to tackle the rise in violent crime in the city of New Orleans Did.
On August 4, Mayor Cantrell and Chief Ferguson held a press conference to address funding and morale issues for the New Orleans Police Department. In a statement, the coalition said these were “significant issues affecting recruitment, retention and maximizing available talent.”
Also yesterday, the city council unanimously passed a technology ordinance confirming NOPD uses public safety technology, along with “guardrails and reporting requirements to ensure transparency.” The council also passed ordinances to improve the performance and efficiency of the Public Justice Service.
