Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) —Following last month’s deadly tornado, Feed America First will distribute Bowling Green food boxes to people in need on Saturday morning.
Some of the larger disaster relief organizations are gone and it is up to small nonprofits to continue to take care of the community.
The goal is to support 1,000 families. It will be held in partnership with the National Corvette Museum.Distribution starts at 8 am
Meals are served on a first-come, first-served basis. No ID, income or proof of residence is required to receive food.
According to the organizers, the box contains about 60-70 pounds of food. It is full of non-perishable food, vegetables, fruits and water.
Executive Director Mike Womak said he feels what these families are experiencing. His hometown of Cookeville was severely damaged during the deadly tornado two years ago.
Womak said this was an opportunity to make a difference.
“It’s food so we can say one of the things you don’t have to worry about. You don’t have to worry about what you eat,” Womak said. It is very fruitful to know that we have influenced. “
