Boston (WHDH)-From August, Boston residents will be able to fly to Manhattan by seaplane.
Tailwind Air expects a direct flight to take off soon from Boston Harbor and hopes that this new venture will allow us to look to more destinations.
“I was very excited. It required a multi-year process with a lot of stakeholder oversight,” explained Peter Manis, director of scheduled operations.
The plane has space for eight passengers.
“It will look like a Cape Air flight,” Manis said. “Many Bostonians may be familiar with it.”
It has been decades since the last seaplane took off from the port.
“Boston provided seaplane services in the 1930s and 1940s, but it has declined,” Manis said.
According to Tailwind Air, many other cities already have commercial flights of seaplanes, and we hope this will be Boston’s first city.
“The waterway can provide access to cities within a radius of 200 miles and 250 miles from Boston in a much faster way,” says Manis.
