WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WJZY) – More than 175 employees of North Carolina-based Novant Health have been fired for failing to comply with the company’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination program.

Novant officials said last week 375 workers have been suspended Against the new policy. On Monday, spokesperson Megan Rivers said in an email that he confirmed in an email that nearly 200 additional workers had adhered and other workers who did not comply had been fired, but the exact number is shown. There wasn’t.

Officials said the dismissed workers had the opportunity to comply for a five-day unpaid suspension period.

Novant Health and Atrium Health Announced in July The health system will require all workers to be vaccinated.

Novant employees were given to be shot until September 15. According to the health system, workers who start a double-dose vaccine series must receive a second dose and maintain compliance by October 15.

Novant workers with medical or religious exemptions are required to take a weekly COVID-19 test, wear an N95 mask and wear eye protection during work.

More than 99% of Novant Health’s nearly 35,000 employees are in compliance with medical company policies, Rivers tweeted on Monday.

The Winston-Salem-based system includes 15 hospitals, 800 clinics, and hundreds of outpatient facilities.
