New York Giants News Uninspiring Loss To Cowboys Jones & Shepard Out For Season Judge Will Consider Starting Fromm More

Giants’ Offense Lifeless In Loss To Cowboys

The New York Giants got practically nothing going on offense in their 21-6 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday marked New York’s third straight loss, and it dropped them to 4-10 on the season. With the defeat, the Giants have now clinched a fifth consecutive season of double-digit losses.

For the third straight week, backup quarterback Mike Glennon started in place of Daniel Jones, who’s out for the season with a neck injury. Glennon struggled mightily with just 13 completions on 24 pass attempts for 99 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions.

With Glennon struggling, head coach Joe Judge decided to give third-stringer Jake Fromm some action. The 23-year-old finished with six completions on 12 pass attempts for 82 yards, nearly leading the Giants to their lone touchdown drive late in the game.

New York has failed to score more than 10 points in three of their last five games.

The Giants will look to rebound when they visit the arch rival Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16 this Sunday (1:00 p.m. EST).

New York has opened as a massive 10.5 point underdog. For Giants fans interested in betting, New York sportsbooks will cover the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and MLS-based New York teams.

Daniel Jones & Sterling Shepard Both Out ForThe  Season

The Giants will be without two key starters on offense for the remainder of the year.

Jones will be shut down for the rest of the year with his neck injury, and veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard tore his left Achilles on Sunday which will keep him out for the remainder of the season per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

Shepard’s season ends with 36 catches for 366 yards and a touchdown in seven game appearances. He previously missed seven games this season due to injuries, and the New York offense has greatly struggled without the 28-year-old on the field.

Shepard finished with 66 receptions last season, which tied his personal best. He’s been one of the few bright spots on a New York team that hasn’t been very competitive over the last five years.

In the 2019 offseason, Shepard signed a four-year contract extension worth $41 million. He is signed for two more seasons after this.

The Giants have been hit hard by injuries to key offensive players throughout the season. Superstar running back Saquon Barkley (four games missed) and standout receivers Darius Slayton (three games missed), and Kadarius Toney (five games missed) have also been sidelined for ample amounts of time.

General manager Dave Gettleman invested a lot in trying to rebuild the offense around Jones. He signed Kenny Golladay, Kyle Rudolph and John Ross III in free agency before drafting Toney with the team’s first-round selection of 2021.

But the injury bug has derailed the Giants’ chances of fielding a potent offense here. Needless to say, it’ll be interesting to see how the front office tries to rebuild the struggling unit in 2022.

Joe Judge May Start Jake Fromm

Glennon’s struggles may prompt Judge to consider a quarterback change ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the Eagles.

Per Michael Eisen of the team’s official website, Judge wouldn’t rule out the idea of possibly giving Fromm his first NFL start on Sunday.

“We got to a point in the game where I wanted to see what Jake could do, point blank,” Judge said. “We weren’t doing enough moving the ball otherwise, so I wanted to make sure I had the chance to see Jake and that will obviously open up a conversation about what we’re going to do this week. We’ll talk about it as a staff and we’ll make the best decision for the team.”

The Georgia product was drafted in the fifth round — 167th overall — by the Buffalo Bills in 2020. Serving as a backup to Josh Allen, Fromm didn’t see any playing time for the Bills in his rookie year.

The Bills signed former Chicago Bears starter Mitch Trubisky to be their new backup in 2021, leaving Fromm expendable. Three weeks ago, the latter was signed by the Giants off of the Bills’ practice squad.
