North Korea launched two ballistic missiles in the waters off the east coast two days after claiming to have tested the newly developed missile at such a weapons exhibit for the first time in six months.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the ballistic missile was launched Wednesday afternoon.

The Japanese Coast Guard says they have landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone between Japan and the Korean Peninsula.

Seoul said South Korean and US intelligence agencies are analyzing details about the launch.

They came when Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was in Seoul for a meeting with South Korean leaders.

It is unusual for North Korea to make a provocative launch when China, its last major ally and largest donor, is engaged in major diplomatic events.
