Corpus Christi, Texas — A big announcement was made Thursday at the Nueces County Courthouse.
Nuesses County Magistrate Melissa Madrigal, a prison security judge and former prosecutor of the District Attorney’s Office, has announced that she is running for county court under Law 1.
Madrigal told KRIS 6 News that she had been a judge for several years and decided that it was time for change.
“Now, because of the pandemic, we will have a huge unprocessed portion of the criminal case,” Madrigal said. “We need to clear it and work hard to do it.”
As a judge, Madrigal hears misdemeanor and felony cases.
If she wins the November 2022 election, she will have jurisdiction over misdemeanors, probates and civil proceedings.
